Elect Paul

to be your Mayor of Sechelt

Dr. Paul Dhillon is running for Mayor of Sechelt.

Paul is a Family and Emergency Physician, Canadian Forces Reservist, avid volunteer, and devoted husband and father. He is passionate about serving his community and fighting for its needs.

WHY I AM RUNNING

Dear Neighbours, I am Dr. Paul Dhillon, and I am running to be your Mayor in the upcoming municipal election in October 2026.

Sechelt is not just where I practice medicine; it is my home. My children Darragh and Ruairí were born here, my wife Sarah and I are raising our family here, and we intend to live, work, and eventually retire right here on the Sunshine Coast.

True local leadership means recognizing that the Mayor is only one of seven votes on a collaborative municipal team. I am dedicated to building an elected council that works cohesively together, repairs fractured dynamics, and establishes professional partnerships with the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD), the provincial government, the shíshálh Nation, federal authorities, and vital local community groups across the community and coast.

Our community faces serious infrastructure pressures at the housing and community level alongside immediate safety and security issues within the Sechelt downtown core. Frontline business owners and families have felt a palpable shift amid rising vandalism, theft, and property crime, as well as complex health crises unfolding on our streets. Addressing downtown safety requires real, actionable street-level integration, diversifying our frontline visibility with active bylaw enforcement and community safety officers while advocating forcefully for provincial resources to tackle the root causes of mental health and substance issues.

BACKGROUND & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Fulfilling the responsibilities of civic leadership requires deep local roots and structured organizational management. Serving as an emergency room doctor and rural family physician at Sechelt Hospital and Cowrie Street Medical Clinic has given me an active, hands-on understanding of the complex social and operational realities facing our town at all hours.

My community engagement ranges from serving as the Medical Director for Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue to volunteering as the Public Relations Co-Chair for the Rotary Club of Sechelt when I first moved to Sechelt.

I have dedicated my career to medical leadership, co-founding national educational initiatives like The Review Course in Family Medicine and managing Team Canada Medical Football.

With an MBA from the Royal Military College of Canada and professional experience directing emergency responses, such as leading medical planning for the Vancouver Convention Health Centre COVID-19 response, I bring the robust organizational background needed to steward Sechelt's upcoming 2045 Official Community Plan updates and balance our structural financial requirements safely.

Military Service

Dr. Paul Dhillon maintains a proud history of reserve military service, having served as a Captain with 11/12 (BC) Field Ambulance and currently holding the rank of Major and Brigade Surgeon for the 39 Canadian Brigade Group. His duties have included serving as the Senior Medical Authority during Operation LASER, completing clinical deployments at sea under Operation HORIZON aboard the HMCS Ville de Québec, and acting as the Chief Medical Officer for the Invictus Games 2025 in Vancouver-Whistler. He has served 12 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Mandatory Political Activity Disclaimer: Dr. Dhillon is engaging in this municipal election strictly in his personal capacity as a private citizen.
